Cringletie is a baronial mansion, a ‘little jewel’ in a secluded setting, with sweeping manicured lawns within acres of woodland. The homely feeling is complimented by a friendly staff, mainly from the delightful local town. Blazing log fires, a wooden staircase, hand-painted ceiling and an old service bell in each public room adds to the grand ambience. All of the comfortable bedrooms is unique, all beautifully appointed with lovely toiletries and a particularly comfy bed. Some are snug, some more modern; each has garden and hillside views and feels relaxing. Outside, the extensive grounds include eclectic sculptures and a walled kitchen garden that supplies some of the restaurant’s needs. The menus in the frescoed ceiling restaurant overlooking the lawns and down the valley to Peebles include dishes using much Borders produce and is high quality and not pretentious. Cringletie is somewhere to enjoy both the wonderful Scottish Borders and a place of excellent hospitality. Everything a fisherman and partners may require is ready and waiting.
