view live watercambeat overview
Rutherford water is justly famous for its beauty, its vibrant wildlife and its first class fishing. The beat which lies between St Boswells and Kelso extends to 2.5 miles on the south bank and 2 miles on the north bank affording space and tranquillity to the angler. The beat’s 14 named pools offer a wide variety of fishing in splendid scenery from boat and bank. At the top of the beat is the Corseheugh Pool, which enjoys one of the finest views in the borders up to the Eildon Hills. In the middle of the beat is the Rutherford Dub, a classic and highly productive autumn boating pool. This leads into the narrow streamy neck of the Slap stream, a strong all year round performer which lies immediately below the old Rutherford Cauld. The final half mile of the beat sees the river entering a spectacular and secluded gorge characterised by rocky ledges and deep holes. The length and variety of the beat ensures that there is good fishing in all water conditions.
There is reasonable vehicle access up and down the beat although a four wheel drive is desirable.
From the start of the season to the beginning of September the beat is fished by 4 rods placed at the discretion of the boatman. From early September the beat is split into 3 sub-beats of about three-quarters of a mile in length and each fished by two rods on a morning and afternoon rotation. Each sub-beat offers the service of a boatman.
Fishing tends to be let in the form of weekly lets or to tenants who fish every other week throughout the season.
Covid 19
All Tenants must comply fully with the restrictions imposed by the UK and Scottish Governments in relation to the Covid 19 Pandemic. During such time as the restrictions are in force the owners may close the fishing hut and restrict the services provided by their Boatman and his assistants.
