Horncliffe Fishings Tweed offers two miles of single bank fishing on the right (south) bank of the Tweed which is divided into three beats. Beats 2 & 3 are particularly off the beaten track and very tranquil. Beat 1 rests in the shadow of Norham Castle with the peace only occasionally distubed by the gentle bell of Norham Parish Church. The upper limit of the fishing is at Norham Castle and the lower limit is the top of St Thomas Island approximately six miles inland from Berwick-upon-Tweed.
Horncliffe, like the adjoining Ladykirk and Tweedhillfishings, is essentially a low water beat which excelled in 2013, 2010, and also the spring of 2011. Tenants are usually allowed to fish outside normal hours (9.15 am to 5 pm) unless there are very large numbers of fish in the beat in prolonged low water conditions.
Chest waders are essential and the paths to the river can be very slippery in wet weather.
Subletting is not permitted and rod sharing is at the discretion of the Boatman. Please call the Head Boatman (Tel. Mob. 07707-240501) prior to booking if you wish to rod share.
Each of the three beats is fished by two rods.
A rota system operates with rods moving down a beat at lunchtime.
The riverside track provides access to beats 2 and 3. Beat 1 is best approached by car (parking at Norham Castle) or alternatively it can be reached on foot by the Norham wood path.
Boats are provided although almost all the fish are caught from the bank. Beats 2 and 3 nearer the fishing hut have long stretches of water offer easily wadeable fishing over smooth gravel. In places Beat 1 is rocky and is more difficult to wade but here the fish can lie quite close into the rock shelf.
A fishing hut (formerly the netting shiel) situated at the bottom of beat 2 is equipped with wood stove and gas cooking ring, fridge and adequate parking space.
With sufficient notice an additional ghillie can be arranged at a cost per day (payable directly).

Driving to the hut
Horncliffe Fishings access to the normal meeting point at the Greenhill Fishing Hut is via a hardcore track, which has been upgraded in 2018 & is generally smooth (but not suitable for a Ferrari or other cars with low ground clearance) whilst passable in a normal car; it is best suited to vehicles that are raised above standard saloon car ride height i.e. SUVs and 4WD. Liability of driving this track is solely down to the owner of the vehicle if any damage is caused.
