Week beginning 10th September
A busy week with two new teams coming to the Lees for the first time in autumn we always hope new rods get amongst the fish.
Ian Jardine’s team had the first three days and on the Monday we struggled to 4 for the day not what we expected but that’s fishing, Alistair Dunbar ticked another box in his fishing career getting his first ever fish on the riffle hitch and rising another two. We had some torrential rain in the afternoon evening which put paid to all fishing on Tuesday with the river very brown, but it set things up for Wednesday bringing in some fresh fish and had 17 for the day 50/50 x rap and fly. X rap for the slow dark water in the Temple and the fly in the shallower streams.
Thursday, a new team in and very windy but 21 for the day almost all on the fly including two at 20lbs one of them caught by salmon fishing first timer David Bowman who had five for the day, not a bad way to start your Salmon fishing career. It was just as well we had the big day as Friday it blew a bloody gale making casting impossible at times and making my hands nip a bit trying to row the boat.
Saw my first skein of Geese today being blown about the sky a sure sign autumn is on its way. We had a sad start to Saturday as we found the big dog Otter lying dead just yards from the hut with a lot of cuts and scuff marks on it, it would appear it had been hit by a car.
Saturday was another windy day so I don’t feel the need to go to the Gym this weekend as had enough exercise this week already. So a good week apart from the wind ending up with 60 fish most of them clean or fresh.
