Week beginning 19th November
Monday- Blowing a bit of a gale water 2’2” and 44 degs but clean, fished all day but only saw one clean fish, river started to rise with us by lunchtime and the fish stopped showing, not that there was that many showing in the first place, would of expected to at least get a pull or two on a Monday.
Tuesday- Flooded off big brown water so we didn’t trouble the stocks. Wednesday- 3’8” on the Lees gauge still on the big side for us, in fact that’s about top height but there was a fair bit of colour in the river as well, we fished all day more in hope than expectation but not a pull was had. Thursday- Blowing a bit of a gale all morning and 2’9” but much cleaner, we had one hen fish at 14lb from the Cauldstream and that was it for the day, the wind stopped at lunchtime only to be replaced by heavy rain and checking the gauges at 1.00pm it showed the top end rising, as I write this at 7.00pm the gauges are still rising with six feet or more at the top so no fishing tomorrow. Friday- gauge showing nothing as we couldn’t see it as it stops at six and a half feet and the water was about two feet over that and filthy brown, the rods who had struggled on all week in difficult conditions finally showed the white flag and headed for home. So only one fish for the week which makes it the worst week by far this Autumn, but that’s late November fishing for you, the same week in 2010 we had 54 but perfect conditions and a lot of fish about. Saturday-3’8” on the gauge and very murky, but a lovely morning frosty sunny and calm, always the way when the rivers out of order. Another belt of rain to hit us tonight and tomorrow so the start of next week is looking a bit grim, but you never know there might be a last rush of fresh fish entering the river looking for a fly to grab.
