Week beginning 21 June 2021
Thursday 24th June. Back to work after my son's Covid wedding which went very well, the sun shone and the drink flowed and the happy couple were married. Team Brymer here for three days 6” on the gauge and 62 f with the sun shining down it was going to be a difficult day. I took Margaret and Ross down to the Duddo for casting lessons as they’d never fished before, in no time they were covering the stream but nothing was pulling the fly, this was the same for the rest of the team but it was a lovely day. It started raining around 5.0pm and the forecast is for rain all night and most of tomorrow, will it rise the river, maybe a wee bit as the land is bone dry. I was speaking to one of the Tillmouth Ghillies this evening and he told me there were lots of fish lower down but they won’t look at anything not even a flying “C”, they’ll follow it but not take it, plenty seatrout as well he said.
Friday 25th June. What a difference in a day, yesterday 26C and today 14C with a north wind and full cloud cover. There were a few fish showing in the Slap but we could not get any interest off them, Tim managed a 4lb seatrout this morning from Learmouth stream but that was all the action this morning. The river was up 2 inch this morning and the north wind was making casting a challenge in places. This afternoon Duncan arrived at the Glide changed to a #10 dressed Red Frances and soon had a fresh 10lber landed proving the point that it’s easy when they are there and fresh. Let’s hope some more turn up tomorrow.
Saturday 26th June. It was more like November than late June today with light mizzle/rain all day and a cold east north east wind but some fish turned up. Duncan Brymer had a brand new grilse out of the Glide and had another pull on a wee red frances, not to be out done Tim had a fresh 9lber from the Iron Gate again on a wee red frances, this spurred Duncan on and he had a 7lb river fish from the top end of the back of the wall. This afternoon Tim had a trip round the Cauld then we finished off with a cast over the Slap with a very long sunray which produced a big bow wave and boil but the fish kept its mouth shut and no pull was had. Two of the team are going out after dinner so scores might increase. 8” and 54f today. It was nice to see the fresh grilse and hopefully it is the first of many.
