Week beginning 24 July 2023
Monday 24th July. Murky water faced us this morning with the Lees gauge reading 1’11” and a chilly 54 degrees. It’s team Onslow on for two days and we had a young team of various degrees of skill, we got them going and first on the scoreboard was Ally Onslow getting a fresh 12lber from the tail of the cauld, his pal James (I think) lost one of the same calibre and a decent seatrout, further down at the iron gate William lost a seatrout that jumped off the hook as they do. There were a few fish running a mix of old and new, not as many as I’d hoped to see but enough to keep it interesting. The fishing should improve tomorrow as it drops back and clears a bit.
Short report as I’m off to London until Friday moving my laddie into his new house.
Saturday 30th July. Back from London and made it in one piece despite the maniac drivers and volume of people down there, glad I live up here. Team Godden has been here since Wednesday and managed a fish or two, 4 as it turns out two of which were fresh. There is still not the volume of fish in the river I was hoping for given the conditions, there is enough water and its cool enough for fish to venture in if they want, catches below us are nothing to shout about, if they are doing well we will do well eventually as the fish move up. The weather this morning (Sunday) is more like an autumn day with rain and dark skies and a bit of a blustery wind blowing the forecast is for more of the same. I’m sure it’ll be better next week.
