Week beginning 26 November 2018
Monday 26th November. There were two fish caught on the river today and we had one of them, well Brian Perry did it all himself really wading the lower cauld. The fish was a 5lb purple hen which gave up as soon as it was hooked, but a fish is a fish and it puts our November tally up to 3. 2’0” and 38 degrees today and clean. The odd showers that were forecast seemed to merge into one long shower that lasted all day and with an easterly air it wasn’t warm. Everything is soaked and stuck to the ground there is no wind to speak of and no sun it’s the worst kind of weather.
Tuesday 27th November. A pleasant enough morning with an east breeze which turned to the south east by lunchtime then it wasn’t so pleasant. Brian Perry was the only rod today again and fished until lunchtime without a touch so he decided to head for home and to abandon tomorrow as the forecast is for rain all day and severe gales, it was the right decision with only 1 fish reported off the whole river. The weather and the fact that we have no rods booked in effectively means that’s the end of the season at the Lees; everyone can now breathe a sigh of relief and stop pretending that there might be a very late run of fish or saying “you never know”. It’ll be putting the fleet to anchor tomorrow and then on with maintenance which includes fitting a toilet at the hut which will be a great relief for everyone.
Wednesday 28th November. That’s the boats off so the season at the Lees is officially over, looking at the gauges tonight it officially over for everyone else as well with all the top gauges showing 5’0” or more. The wind is really picking up tonight and there is a lot more to come tomorrow so it’s going to get really big. There’s nothing more to say about the season that’s not already been said. Anyone looking for summer fishing next year needs to pull their finger out; it can’t be another heatwave next year can it? With the driftnets being off next year and perhaps the J nets and T nets if we get a bit of water there could be some very good fishing to be had. It’ll be better next year.
Thursday 29th November. River running around the 8 foot mark this morning and very windy, dropping back quickly during the day but rising again tonight with 6 foot at Roxburgh on the Teviot and 5 foot on several gauges on the main river.
As ever log into instagram or tweedbeats on facebook for latest photos and clips, I’ll keep putting stuff on over the winter.
