Week beginning 26 November 2019
Monday 26th November. The only rod booked in for the day Brian Perry very wisely decided not to come today, 2’4” 40 degrees and very murky. That is the season effectively over for us as we have no rods booked in and we’ve also taken all the boats off. There are a few kelts sploshing around but the total catch reported across the websites was zero.
Tuesday 27th November. Rain all day, river rising slowly, it never really got light today. Got some gravel ordered to fill all the potholes along the drive, mucked out the hen house, chucked a load of poison down the rat holes and scared a few goosanders.
Wednesday 28th November. Another dreich day when it never got light, light rain all day and the gauge showing 3’4” this morning as well as looking like milky coffee. SEPA have flood alerts out across the borders so that will really kick 2019 in to the long grass. Not a lot to say really. Thursday
Thursday 29th November. It made 6’0” on the Lees gauge and filthy brown, I watched Wark getting their boats off this morning and heard of many others, a hard frost is forecast so that will drop the river in and there will no doubt be a diehard rod somewhere upstream of Galashiels who will be trying to catch the last fish of the 2019 season on Saturday.
Friday 29th November. A frosty start and the sun came out at last so at least that will harden the ground instead of walking about in mud. Well thats all from me this year, I’ve written enough this year, it’s time to turn the raised beds over and cover them with manure, tidy up the garden and round the yard, put some Christmas lights up, I just wrap some on a artificial tree in yard saves all the hassle then wheel it into a corner of garden when finished with. Hope to see you all next season when fish will be leaping all over the place shining silver in the sun with no gales to hinder the casting. Ghillies/Boatman’s dinner tomorrow night so I will not be writing anything. If you are looking for something to read over the winter go to the Tweed foundation site and go through their back catalogue for the year.
