Week beginning 27th August
Monday 1’9” 58 degs Water clean which is a good height for the Lees , in the morning we had a visit from a seal. We also had a very strong south wind which hindered the casting/rowing and ended the day with 2 fish.
Tuesday 4’3” Big and brown no fishing today
Wednesday 2’5” Very dark beery water fished the fly for the first hour or so then changed on to the x rap and had 12 fish in rapid succession, we did get 5 to the fly but a heavy thunder storm with lighting slowed us down a bit, I’m not a great fan of the flashy stuff. Phil Hinton who is a Lees regular had 9 to his own rod then cap it all on Saturday when fishing Birgham Dub had a Sealiced 29 lb cock fish from the Brose stream. (Lucky Boy)
Thursday 4’4” The result of the thunder and lightning so no fishing again, have to feel sorry for A Macintosh who was fishing with us on Tuesday and Thursday, but it happens, makes you appreciate the good days.
Friday 2’10” 50 degs and a colder fresher day, water very dark so we opted to spin from the outset and had an amazing 23 fish all on x raps ( you have to fish the conditions ) The best was 17lb with a mix of new and river fish also lost a load.
Saturday 2’4” 54 Degs Beery water had 14 for the day mostly on the fly, but we seemed to have lost a lot of the fish that were here on Friday, very bad wind in the afternoon. Ended the week with 56 fish, not bad for 3 decent days fishing out of a week. 107 for August 2012. 221 last year.
On the wildlife front apart from the Seal we have been seeing the Otters every day and the numbers of Swallows and Martins skimming the water gets fewer every day, also saw the first of the Golden plover on Friday which is a tad early for them.
