Week beginning 28 July 2014
Monday 28th July Another hot Monday, no rods today as Tony elected not to come which was a wise move. 66 degs and about 7” on the gauge. Stuart arrived this morning to have a walk round the beat as he is our new Ghillie this autumn, at least at this height he can see where all the rocks are and where the fish should be lying; of course it’ll look a bit different when the water comes.
Tuesday 29th July Much cooler this morning and a wind from the North West, Harry Birket here for next two days with a couple of pals, I’m not sure how they got on this afternoon but they blanked this morning.
Wednesday 30th July The lads weren’t so keen this morning but Mike gave the Cauld a go and Harry had a wee cast at the Ledges, by lunchtime they waved the white flag and headed for home
Thursday 31st July Peter and Rob here for rest of the week and they both know the beat well, they fished round the beat and had a lovely time but no fish. There are fish off the cobble point in the deep hole but they’re not interested.
Friday 1st August An overcast start to the day with rain forecast so I got the Middle stream area strimmed before it started, Rob and Peter had decided to rest the Lees for the day and went to visit Wattie Burns at Birgham Dub another of their favourite hunting grounds. The rain started around 2.00 and is forecast to rain most of tomorrow which is a bugger as I’m off to Lauder common riding, so there’s going to be some muddy wet folk on horses tomorrow.
Saturday 2nd August Lauder common riding and it was wet 358 horses I heard and one ambulance, the top gauges are rising but it’s not going to be the big flood we need but every little bit helps. I see Tillmouth had 6 today so some are nosing in. Its Coldstream Civic/festival week next week so no report so don’t look for one as by next Saturday I won’t be able to suck my thumb and won’t be much better on the following Monday.
