Week beginning 28 October 2013
Monday 28th Flooded off today 4’2” and dirty. Tuesday 29th 2’10” 46 degs and much cleaner ended the day with 5 4 of which were fresh/clean biggest 15lb. It was a tad on the windy side and I have to say and I don’t need to go to the gym tonight. The amount of fish showing was disappointing to say the least. Tomorrow should be a perfect height for the Temple and the temp will be down as there might be a frost tonight, so if we don’t bag up tomorrow I’m starting to think that there’s not many more fish to come which will be a bit of a bugger for November, I’m still working on the excuse that it’s too warm but all that is changing so tomorrow is going to be the acid test.
Wednesday 30th 2’6” and 46 degs is more like it, 7 for the morning so fairly happy but it improved in the afternoon with another 10 the best was a 24lber from Learmouth along with another 5 all on wet 4 lines and a fancy conehead thing made by golden boy Bryan Jewels who will now be selling them for £10 a pop. The enigma was we blanked in the Temple and Cauld this afternoon. As I write this it’s raining again so we might be flooded off again tomorrow. I see the fish of a lifetime was landed at Boleside yesterday at 50lbs!!! They were lucky to get it as it was stuck in the Slap at the Lees and I set it free using a crow bar and sent it on it’s way. Thursday 31st Well it’s Halloween and its trick or treat time, there was no treats for the rods as the river was rising and colouring along with a stiff wind from the south turning to the west in the afternoon. 2’9” this morning, up 5” on last night, and up 2” this morning. Days total 2 best 5lbs there was a couple of others lost but it was never going to be a good day with rising/colouring water. It was one of those days where everyone is stuck up the top which is fine as long as the fish are pulling but boring as #% if nothing is doing. It needs to lose 10” and we are back in business. The catches are starting to look good up river at last which must be a great relief for the rods/Ghillies as they have had a long wait.
Friday November 1st Well I had to go and help at a charity dinner and I didn’t get time to write Fridays bit and now it’s Saturday night and I can’t remember what all happened yesterday, nothing that special. Saturday 2nd 2’3” and 42 degs and a frost this morning clean water, we ended the day with 20 the best being 19lbs from the Temple, I have to say I hardly saw a fish all day but if we keep catching them it doesn’t matter. Looking at the scores on the river you had to be on the right beat, some with big scores and some with very little. We have been on wet 2 and wet 4/5 lines depending what pool you are on, teamed with tubes. Bad south east wind all day and rain tonight with more forecast for the start of next week, need the river to drop now as we’ll start to lose fish. Sunday 3rd Nice sunny day with a bit of a wind blowing, river is running brown but should clear enough for fishing tomorrow. Photos this week are Autumn colours on the Temple and Kelsae the dug giving a Salmon a good clean.
