Week beginning 29 July 2013
Monday 29th River at 2’0” this morning which made it look huge compared to the last few weeks, it was a bit murky and when we had a go in the Cauld from the boat it was weed every cast, The lads did get a couple of pulls in the tail of the Cauld but they were sharp jaggy tugs which makes me think Seatrout rather than Salmon. I spent a lot of time watching the tail of the Cauld but never saw a fish move, might be better tomorrow as it settles down a bit.
Tuesday 30th River back to 1’6” this morning and 62 Degs still with a fair bit of murk in it, Mike lost a fish in the Back of the Wall on fly as he was beaching it but that was it for the day. By lunchtime the river was back up to 2’0” and Murky again, I see from the websites that a few fish were caught below us so some must be pushing up a bit with the wee rise, Torrential rain this afternoon with thunder and lightning in the Coldstream area. West Learmouth have a fish on for today but it was caught last night which is something you have to look out for as it can give a false picture.
Wednesday 31st A better day for the job and a fish from the tail of the Cauld, not liced but clean enough, and then another lost on the fly from the Glide, so things are looking up.
Thursday 1st August There was a bit of rain last night which put a foot of water in the Ettrick so Team Williamson/Jameson got on with the job; Rob elected to fish the Temple as it’s his favourite pool and was rewarded with an 8lb fish on a Toby, not fresh but a fish just the same. Peter went down to his favourite pool The Glide and had a 10lb fish again not fresh, they had a couple of other pulls and that was it for the day. I’ve just been along for a look tonight and there are a lot of fish moving in the Temple and a few in the Cauld but the rise has reached the Lees and the water now has a lot of weed and grass cuttings in it, hopefully this will run off for tomorrow morning.
Friday 2nd 1’11” and 62 degs lovely warm morning bit windy and Peter Williamson scores in the Cauldstream with a clean 7lb fish which he reckoned was more like 10lbs but was reined in by Paul, Rob was thrashing the water to foam downstream but had no action. A lovely BBQ was had at lunchtime and the lads were going to fish on in the evening, as I write this I’ve not heard of any more fish being caught, it’s just gone 9.00pm so it’s Gin and tonic time in the garden.
Saturday 3rd Off on holiday Coldstream Civic week starting, 1@10lb from Temple.
N.B. No report next week.
