Week beginning 3rd September
Monday morning a fresh team in and 2’0” on the gauge 56 degs with a slight tinge to the water but looking good. Fish of the day was a 24lber from the Glide to Nigel crosskell who was rather pleased with himself, so pleased that he bought a new wig to celebrate; he was fishing an intermediate line and a shrimpy type tube, fellow rod Gene godden took 4 from the Cauld before lunch whilst sharing the pool with a big dog Otter all morning.
On the Tuesday morning Nigel followed his 24lber with a cracking 19lb fresh cock fish and was smiling like a dog with two tails. Fish of the week because it was his first ever goes to Jack Robinson aged 12 was a fresh 6lb grilse a nice one to start your fishing career with he doubled the size the next day with a 12lber. Gene godden a Lees stalwart a bit miffed with Nigel’s success had a fish on Thursday which pipped Nigel’s by half a pound estimated, so I should think they will still be debating that all the way home and every time they go fishing.
The wind played a major factor this week especially on Thursday when it nearly blew us off the water as the week went on the fish were proving harder to catch they don’t like warm humid conditions bit like the Ghillies really. We have been using intermediate lines, sink tips and full floaters, flies have been all the old favourites Cascades, Willie Gunns anything you want really just put it in front of a taking fish. Gave the skimmer a fair go this week but only managed to land one with it, as often they splash at it but don’t really pull it, but it’s still the most exciting way to fish.
We ended the week with 44 fish so no complaints there, and young jack wanting to come back for more if his dad Paul lets him as Jacks casting is starting to show Paul up. Looks like the weather is to break on Monday so that should help, a wee tad of water and a drop in temperature would not go wrong.
