Week beginning 4 June 2018
Monday 4th June. A nice sunny day with a north east wind blowing, 1’9” and very dirty, the lads gave it a go but the odds were always against them. It was really a day to enjoy the view.
Tuesday 5th June. 1’4” 56 degrees and very beery. The beery water was no obstacle to Mick Atkinson who had two 7lb licers from the lower cauld on a silver cascade fished on a floater with an intermediate tip this morning. I never saw a fish all day but they were there.
Wednesday 6th June. Another overcast start with that north east wind still with us. Tom Hulme was on the Slap and cauld this morning and had a couple of boils to a wee size 10 cascade, he then switched to a sunray and had two more big bow waves but no connections, in the cauld he had a wee pull which gave him a start but it didn’t hang on either. Mick Atkinson had more luck down on the glide getting another 7lber.
Thursday 7th June. A lovely hot sunny day, maybe not great for fishing but a lovely day nonetheless. Got some grass cut then had to head home to sort out a plumbing issue. I heard that someone lost two in Learmouth this morning.
Friday 8th June. I’m off to Hawick common riding. I did hear one was caught today down the back of the wall area. Water is dropping right back now and all the thunder storms seem to be missing the Tweed catchment area.
Saturday 9th June. Still at Hawick where it was a lovely day apart from one shower so I presume it was the same at Coldstream. One thing I did see at Hawick which is on the Teviot as you know was a female Goosander with her clutch, she was right in the middle of town so nice and safe from most predators, the young ones were loving it as they were fishing even though it was dark but with the benefit of the street lights they were catching plenty.
