Week beginning 9 June 2014

Monday 9th June Sobered up after the weekends activities and looking at a brown river, 2’3” or something like that I can’t remember, anyway gave it a miss this morning and went up to Kelso to get new waders as present ones leaking at boot joint and their only weeks old. Repaired one of the fibreglass boats which is a speedy job as the resin cures rather quickly then cut some grass. The lads arrived back after lunch and chucked a Toby about off the bank, Mick was the lucky boy getting a nice 7lb Seatrout which he returned and losing a couple of others, Seatrout are what you would expect to catch in this beery water. There should be a cracking rise of trout tonight so going along later for a look. Just back and had a big Seatrout jumped out at sunray but missed it and a boil at bottom of Cauld, caught a good few trout though.
Tuesday 10th June Rivers up again following heavy rain and a bit of thunder and this time its really red/orange so no fishing today and not that great tomorrow so the lads have had a hard time so far. Cut all the paths round beat, put repaired boat back on and pulled off Cauld boat as it needs repaired then strimmed Cauld bank, also noticed some Hogweed that I’ve missed with the sprayer and its a bugger as it’s going to be really hard to get at where it is surrounded by shoulder high vegetation. Every cloud though I won’t have to water the garden but have to remember to water inside the greenhouse and polytunnel.
Wednesday 11th June Another morning with very brown water, so Dave called it a day and headed off early, Mick stayed until the afternoon and was rewarded with a couple of Seatrout from the Ledges on a Toby 1@3lbs and 1@6lbs.
Thursday 12th June I had a day at Carham helping out Lee with the Help for Heroes' day, unfortunately nothing was caught but it was a nice day out for the lads, the river is clearing fast now but we never saw a thing all day, I really thought we’d get a Seatrout as we thrashed it all day but that’s fishing. Selkirk common riding tomorrow so it’s an early start 4.00am !!!!!!!!!!!!! I’m more used to going home at 4.00am not getting up, but if you’re not into Selkirk by 6.00am the roads are closed. I’m driving as Sally drove last week at Hawick which is just as well as she reckons I couldn’t of sucked my thumb! Bit harsh I thought. Friday 13th June Selkirk common riding day which was great apart from one really bad accident when two horses collided knocking one right off its feet and onto the rider as they galloped up the street, horse was ok but rider ended up in ICU unit at Borders hospital. As for the fishing I’ll find out tomorrow. Commonwealth games baton arrives in Coldstream tomorrow morning so I’ll have to go for a look, another early start though as son has to be up and out for 6.00am. Saturday 14th June Up early to see the baton coming in and it was alright but I wouldn’t get up at 5.30 am to see it happen again. Anyway the fishing, it’s just not happening on the lower river at the moment, nothing seen or touched, 1’6” and a bit beery still. That wee lift of water was so dirty that the fish and even the Seatrout have either run away in front of it or don’t want to come in when it was so dirty, maybe next week, the forecast looks settled so if there are any Seatrout about they should be catchable in the evenings. Photos this week are Selkirk common riding and the games mascot who’s called Clyde as there’s no fishy photos to show you.
