Tweed Flyfishing Preferred
Tweed Flyfishing Preferred (TFP) is a loose Association of salmon beats on the main stem of the Tweed who prefer to fish with a fly.
The beats named below have agreed to follow the Rules so far as they are able, albeit with some variations. For instance, some beats will allow no spinning at all under any circumstances, whereas others might want to retain some more flexibility than others as to when downstream spinning will be allowed, especially in adverse water and weather conditions.
The TFP Rules are these:
1. No upstream spinning.
2. Spinning downstream only in high water. Each beat will decide, with reference either to their own marker/gauge, or Fishtweed’s Boleside/ Sprouston markers, the height above which spinning will be allowed.
3. By exception, the very young, very old, or infirm, who physically cannot handle a fly rod, will be allowed to spin in low water.
4. Some flexibility will be allowed to accommodate spinning in unusually adverse water or weather conditions.
5. TFP member beats are encouraged to publish the split between the salmon caught (a) by fly and (b) by spinning.
